International Human Rights Law Internship

Are you interested in an internship with us?

Who we are

AsyLex is a nonprofit organization based in Switzerland that offers free legal advice to asylum seekers and refugees (online) and represents them before national and international authorities, courts, and UN committees. Over the past nearly seven years, we have advised more than 20,000 clients in over 25 languages, thanks to the efforts of approximately 200 volunteers. The International Human Rights Litigation Team consists of approximately 15 volunteers and takes action in cases of massive violations of fundamental and human rights.

Your tasks

We are looking for an intern who embodies our values and has a strong interest in upholding fundamental and human rights in all asylum and immigration law proceedings. Together with the project manager, you will form the core of the International Human Rights Litigation Team. Together, you will maintain an overview of all ongoing cases and share the team’s diverse responsibilities. Working closely together, you will prepare international complaints to UN committees and the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR), draft country reports, translate supporting documents, participate in conferences and workshops, and advise clients. In addition, you will assist AsyLex with administrative tasks and work closely with the other teams.

Who we are looking for

Are you studying law, political science (at least a bachelor’s degree), or a related field, or have you recently graduated? Do you have a strong sense of justice? Have you actively advocated for human rights in the past? Are you familiar with the Swiss asylum system and international procedures, or are you eager to specialize in these areas? Then you’ve come to the right place. We are looking for an independent and responsible person who likes to take the initiative and is fluent in German and English (French and other languages commonly used in the asylum sector are a plus).

What we offer

You’ll work as part of an international team of talented volunteers. Your professional development is our priority—you’ll benefit from valuable training opportunities. Our office is centrally located in Zurich, and working from home is possible up to 60% of the time. You’ll have the chance to provide long-term support to people facing difficult life situations and to learn from experienced professionals. With a BA degree, the salary for a full-time position is CHF 1,050, and with an MA degree, it’s CHF 1,550.

Next Steps

If we’ve piqued your interest, please send your complete application materials (resume, cover letter, transcripts, references) as soon as possible—and no later than August 11, 2026—to Arianna Ortelli (bewerbungen@asylex.ch). We look forward to receiving your application!
